THE ACADEMY’S TITLE INSURANCE PRE-LICENSING COURSE

Experience Matters!

The State of Maryland requires anyone who perform closings for a title company to obtain a Title Insurance Producer’s (TIP) license.  This includes employees of a title company, as well as independent contractor "mobile notaries".  The latter are called Title Insurance Producer Independent Contractors (TIPICs) under Maryland law.

In short, in order to perform closings for a title insurance company, you will need your Maryland Notary Public commission, as well as your Maryland Title Insurance Producer’s license.

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) issues title insurance producers’ licenses.  The Academy’s Title Insurance Pre-Licensing course was written by attorney Ned Livornese – “The Title Professor”, and has been approved by the MIA.  Completion of the course allows you to sit for a 100-question state title insurance pre-licensing exam.

The Academy’s class is offered in two formats:

  1. As a live, on-line Zoom.com course offered attorney Ned Livornese.  It is taught in 4 evening classes from 5:15 pm – 9:15 p.m., for a total of 16 hours of classroom time. 

  2. The next Live Title Insurance Pre-Licensing Classes will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, August 14 and 15, 2024, and Wednesday and Thursday, August 21 and 22, 2024.

  3. Students must attend all four sessions, and be able to communicate and be present online (with camera) for all sessions.

  4. You may also attend these classes a self-study course with 4 modules for a total of 16 hours of recorded videos. For this option, you will receive a recorded presentation from one of the live classes described above.  This option allows you to attend classes at your own pace and complete your studies around your own schedule. However, attendance at the live course is always highly-encouraged!

Whether live or online, each of the 4 instruction sessions includes 150+ pages of written materials created by Ned Livornese in .pdf format.  Completion of the course requires you to pass 4 quizzes with a total of 100 questions, and a 100-question final exam at the end of the course.  A 70% passing rate is required of all quizzes and the final exam. 

NOTE: YOU MAY TAKE THE COURSE LIVE AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WOULD LIKE FOR UP TO 12 MONTHS, AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE!

Upon completion of the Academy’s live or self-study courses, you will receive a Prometric Test Eligibility number, which will allow you to take the MD state licensing exam to become a Maryland Title Insurance Producer. The state exam consists of 110 total questions taken in 2 hours or less.

HOW IS THE ACADEMY OF NOTARY AND TITLE INSURANCE DIFFERENT THAN ANYONE ELSE WHO TEACHES MARYLAND TITLE INSURANCE PRE-LICENSING CLASSES?

The bottom line is that Maryland Title Insurance Pre-Licensing classes cover a lot of very difficult subjects, including the following:

  • Title Insurance Law;

  • Real Estate Law;

  • Trust and Estates Law;

  • Corporations, LLCs and business law;

  • Bankruptcy Law;

  • Maryland laws and regulations regarding title insurance;

  • Federal laws regarding title insurance;

  • How title insurance companies work; 

  • And much more.

Unfortunately, the hard truth is that pass rates on the Maryland Title Insurance Prelicensing Course can be quite low, depending upon which course you take.

So before committing your time and precious funds to any course offering Maryland Title Insurance Pre-licensing education, ask yourself:  Is really worth it to waste weeks of your time and spend your hard-earned money without giving yourself the best-possible chance of passing the state exam?

The Academy’s Course Instructor:

Ned Livornese

Also known as “The Title Professor”, Ned grew up in Maryland and graduated from the Denver University School of Law.  He is a practicing attorney and Maryland Underwriter for a large national title insurance company.  As such, he answers difficult questions about title insurance and notarizations every day for his Maryland agents. 

Ned has taught Maryland Title Insurance Pre-Licensing classes for more than 10 years, and his students have some of the highest state exam pass rates of any instructor in Maryland.  In 2024, he added Notary Public classes for new and renewing notary students.  He has personally conducted or overseen thousands of title insurance closings in his 30+ year title insurance career.

Even after you have taken this course, you will be able to ask Ned questions related to the state exam.  Ned can always be reached by email, and can return phone calls from students.  You will not receive a better level of support from anyone in Maryland!
